Now he is in the spotlight, he has been doing many interviews and in this one from the Scottish Daily Record, he has explained how difficult it was to give up his childhood club and take the big move to the Emirates. He said: “It has been hard, people probably think ‘he just moved for this reason or that reason’ but they don’t realise it was a big thing for me.
“I don’t have to explain my love for Celtic, everyone knows it’s my club and the club I’ve supported all my life.
“But this was a chance to move to a massive club in England.
“Everyone told me it was a great move, it’s a chance to come here and play against some of the best players in the world.
“And every day I am training with some of the best players in the world too. It was an opportunity to better myself.
“Sometimes you have to look at your career as well as what your heart is telling you to do and it was the toughest decision of my life.
“It kept me up at nights thinking about it. People who are around me know how hard it was.”
It is no surprise that he is sorely missed by Celtic and their die-hard fans who believed he would stay in Glasgow for his whole career, but surely every young players dream is to play in the Premier League and put their talent on show for the whole world to see.
It may have been hard for him to leave, but Arsenal fans are very glad he did as he looks like he is going to a real asset for our future success.
His attitude is also very impressive and he is very single-minded in wanting to be the very best every single day. As he told Arsenal.com: “I just give 100 per cent,”
“That is all I can do. It is the only goal I set for myself and I would be doing my family an injustice and the club an injustice if I didn’t give 100 per cent.
“I am just going to bring myself. I don’t compare myself to anybody else. As I said, I work 100 per cent every day. If it is good enough, it is good enough. If not, it’s not for a lack of trying.
“I don’t set goals. I work 100 per cent every day and see where that takes me.
“It is a massive change for me here. I was a home boy, I always stayed with my parents, and I’ve come down here to a different country, a massive city. But so far everybody at the club has helped me settle and I am very grateful for that.
“People say what’s the city like? I have no idea, I’ve never been in. I train, I work hard, I go home and recover and train the next day.
“It is just a simple life and I just put everything into football and all I can to just try to reap the rewards.”
You can’t knock him for that attitude. We have seen too many youngsters move here and get distracted by the bright lights and the adulation, but it looks like he has feet on ground and gives everything in training. We can look forward to a long and successful career at the Emirates after already achieving everything he could in Scotland.
