Klopp makes BIG step towards replacing Wenger at Arsenal

Unless he has been on the moon or simply does not read the papers or use the internet, Jurgen Klopp must have heard the Arsenal transfer rumours that have proclaimed him as one of the main front runners to take over from our current manager Arsene Wenger, whenever that might be. And after the loss against Man United, it could be sooner rather than later.

It seems as though the German is not against the idea at all. In fact, Klopp has almost encouraged the Gunners to make a move to prise him away from his current club Borussia Dortmund, in a statement reported by the Daily Mail. And the 47-year old could be ready to take the reins at Arsenal sooner rather than later.

Because Dortmund are having a nightmare in the German Bundesliga this season and any faint hopes of managing to regain the title that he led Dortmund to in successive seasons a few years back are long gone, as Bayern Munich continue their recent dominance. And the fact that his best players are systematically being poached by the Munich club and other big clubs around Europe is certainly not convincing him to stay.

Although Klopp does not mention Arsenal by name, he does suggest that a Premier League club will be his next port of call and the Gunners are the only big English club that have been linked with him.

Klopp said, “I think it’s the only country where I should work, next to Germany because it’s the only country I know the language a little bit and I need the language for my work.

“If somebody will call me, then we will talk about it.

“When I came here I thought OK now I can work as a normal coach, two or three years – next club, next city. I’m really interested in life, it’s not important for me to stay for a long time in the same place.

“My children are old enough to stay alone, that’s not the problem. I am here for more than six years, I don’t know when it will end, I don’t think about this.

“But it’s not my idea to build a legacy. We will see, as long as it’s successful and we can develop everything, we shouldn’t change.”

I’m not sure that his comments about staying too long in one place will help his cause with the Arsenal board, but he has spent seven years at Mainz and now six at Dortmund, so he has hardly got itchy feet. The question is whether Wenger is willing to step down and whether Klopp really is the man Arsenal want to replace him. If so, we might have to pick up the phone pretty soon.
