Latest transfer rumour will put a smile on Arsenal fans faces

A lot of the Arsenal transfer rumours involve players I have not really heard of or are unproven but that cannot be said about the latest rumour doing the rounds in the media today.

Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze is apparently being linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer and if that is true it would represent a major coup.

The story originated with Bild in Germany who are claiming that Gotze is considering his future at Dortmund and could be available for a cut-price fee.

Gotze has just one year remaining on his contract and it is also being reported that Arsenal is prepared to meet his wage demands, so all good, right? Well, sort of, first and foremost we have to secure Champions League football next season because that is seen as a deal breaker.

The attacking midfielder was one of the best players in the world in his position for Dortmund until the end of the 2012-13 season and then left for Bayern Munich, where he regressed slightly before eventually returning to Dortmund in 2016.

It took him some time to regain his best form and over the last season we finally started to see some of the old Gotze, however, he was never really forgiven by the Dortmund faithful for joining Bayern and it is no real surprise to hear that he is looking to move on once again.

Make no mistake, Gotze is a huge talent, he is still only 26 and scored the winner for Germany in the 2014 World up final against Argentina.

He is versatile and can play across the pitch from the midfield to the forward line, he is immensely talented and when he is on his game is almost unplayable.

The playmaker would fit in perfectly at Arsenal, he plays the exact sort of football that we are associated with, he is a brilliant passer of the ball, a fine dribbler with a thunderous shot.

This is one player that I hope we can land, he would make a huge difference.
