Certain Arsenal fans (some may call them fickle) on Justarsenal, keep complaining that the Gunners haven’t won any trophies for over a decade, but they reason that the FA Cup is just another Mickey Mouse trophy like the League Cup or the Community Shield. If this is true then they only two trophies relevant to English fans is the Premier League (with 20 teams fighting for it) and the Champions League (with 96 clubs from all over Europe aiming for it).
But I don’t think other clubs’ fans feel like that and they are extremely jealous of our 3 FA Cups in just 4 seasons. Teams like Tottenham and Liverpool, who now have superb managers, but haven’t actually won anything at all in the last ten years except one League Cup each. This makes Arsene Wenger’s 3 FA Cup winners medals actually look a little bit more impressive than these two supposedly close rivals!
So although many pundits keep going on about “shifts of power” or “as good as Arsenal now” in relation to Spurs or Liverpool, the facts are that the Gunners are actually winning things! As the Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn said: “Yes, they have closed the gap,”
“I know I will upset a lot of Tottenham supporters…[but] the only time I’m really going to start worrying is when Tottenham start to win the trophies.
“If they can win the trophies and then keep finishing very high up in the league. If they win the Premier League, win the Champions League, FA Cups, and Arsenal are not doing that, then the real power shift has changed.
“For me, it [the potential] hasn’t changed, the gap has closed, there’s hardly any gap. I’ve said it for the last two seasons, Arsenal and Tottenham are very, very close at the moment and I’ll put Liverpool in there with them as well.”
Well people keep saying that, but when you actually look at the Premier League table, Liverpool are level on points with us, while Tottenham (haha) are just one point ahead. Yes they are close, but we are all well behind the leaders Manchester City so we are all in basically the same position at the moment….
So let’s all ask the question; Where’s the trophies????
