Rumours broke a few days back that Arsenal forward, Lucas Perez has told Arsenal bosses that he wants to leave the club in the summer. He reportedly held talks with the club, having grown frustrated with a lack of opportunities under Arsene Wenger.
The main concern is that Lucas wishes to link up with the Spanish national team for the 2018 World Cup and at 28 years old, he fears that without regular playing time, he may never get the chance to be capped by his national side. The rumours stirred a bit of interest, but his agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Llovelle has now officially confirmed that Lucas Perez wants out of Arsenal.
In an official statement, Llovelle stated: ‘He hasn’t received any offer [to leave] yet. If Lucas leaves London – and he will leave because he’s had no chance with [Arsene] Wenger – he wants to go and play for a big club like Arsenal. Milan is a great club and he likes them very much, even if we’ve never talked with the Rossoneri hierarchy.’
‘Look, the truth is that Lucas wants to leave at all costs and is not happy at Arsenal, he hasn’t settled and hasn’t had a chance to play and show what he can do. No matter who is the manager in the future, we want to go. The player must have the chance to play.’
It’s interesting to see that Lucas’ agent specifically mentions AC Milan, as there had been a few rumours previously doing the rounds on social media, that the player would be interested in a move to Italy. Llovelle has categorically denied that Lucas has already held talks with the Milan side and realistically I reckon that his agent is simply trying to stir up a bit of interest in the player.
It’s disappointing to know that Lucas wants out of the club after just one season, but it is a fair statement to make since he really hasn’t been given the chance to impress at all under Arsene Wenger. Wenger has given Lucas a few chances in the cup competitions, but in the Premier League, Wenger just hasn’t allowed Lucas to have a run of games to show what he can bring to the side. I think Lucas has lacked in confidence in his ability to get the goals when starting up front on his own; I feel he has looked rather isolated from the rest of the team. However when he has come on as a substitute on the wing, Lucas brings a fresh impact to the team, injecting pace and a driven mentality. His goals and assists tally is certainly impressive considering the time on the pitch, but he just doesn’t seem to do enough to convince Wenger that he’s worthy of a starting spot in the team.
