Man City v Spurs match is also key to Arsenal title hopes

Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal players and fans will be understandably focused on what happens at the Emirates Stadium in Sunday’s early Premier League kick-off. But once the dust has settled and Arsenal are hopefully celebrating a vital three points against the current league leaders Leicester City, all eyes will turn north to the Etihad Stadium where another key match will be played.

Our north London rivals Tottenham will be facing a Man City side that will be desperate to get back to winning ways after their loss against Leicester and after Man United conceded that late equaliser to Chelsea on Sunday, the current top four are, realistically, the four clubs that could win the title this season.

What Arsenal really want from this game is a draw but failing that I would prefer Man City to win and stop the momentum of the spuds, especially as the Gunners are due to travel to White Hart Lane in a few weeks. City look set to be boosted by the return of their captain and best centre back Vincent Kompany while Spurs might start to feel the loss of their own defensive stalwart Jan Vertonghen.

But with City having to do without key attacking players De Bruyne, Nasri, Navas and Silva, the chances are strong that it could be a game with few goals and that increases the chances of the draw that Arsenal really want. We have had some rotten luck so far but it just seems to be that things are starting to go our way.

If the Leicester match and the Man City v Spurs clash goes the right way then the weekend will end with us in second spot, two points behind Leicester, two ahead of the spuds and three ahead of Man City. Would that make Arsenal the favourites again?
