Mbappe? Wenger may as well as say Arsenal want Messi

So in the latest thrilling bit of Arsenal transfer news, if you are the sort of person who believes in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or Theo Walcott when he talks about fighting spirit, we hear in a Sky Sports report from Arsene Wenger the confirmation that the highly sought after Monaco star Kylian Mbappe is one of our transfer targets.

The boss said, “Obviously it would be hypocritical and a lie to say that we are not looking at him.

“But he’s already in the bracket of clubs who are, perhaps, much better financed than us.”

In other news, I am looking to build a time machine and go back to the 60s to shack up with the young Sophia Loren. Which of these two is the most unlikely to happen might seem obvious, with my plan having at least two big obstacles in the way, but I would not put any more money on Arsenal signing this highly priced and much sought after striker.

Not because of what Wenger suggested, that we cannot compete with the other big clubs who want him, but because we won’t even try. The closest Arsenal will get to the transfer of Mbappe is to rent a house near his agent and peek through the curtains as the representatives of teams like Chelsea, Man City, United and Real Madrid call round.

Even if I am very much mistaken and the Arsenal board and manager do make a real effort on this transfer, which they won’t, imagine what an ambitious, up and coming player with the potential to be one of the best in the world would say to joining an Arsenal team that is struggling to even tread water and has to suffer annual humiliation in both the Premier League and Champions League competitions.

By all means Arsene, look at Mbappe, but unless you are going to actually try to sign him or make Arsenal an enticing option for such players, do us a favour and keep it to yourself would you?

Bob.
