Ospina feeling calm and confident about facing England

The Arsenal keeper David Ospina has been Colombia’s regular first-choice keeper for many many years, and in fact has played more games for his country than he has in his four years at Arsenal. He may not be with the Gunners for much longer after the arrival of Bernd Leno, but he is still going strong at the World Cup where he will be between the sticks when they meet England on Tuesday in Moscow.

Colombia have won their last two games against Poland and Senegal without conceding a goal, and Ospina is feeling nice and calm ahead of facing Gareth Southgate’s side. “It has gone well for us so far and we feel confident because this our second World Cup together. We’re a bit more experienced,” the 29-year-old said. “Things went well for us in Brazil in 2014 and we have the same ambitions but we have also learned a lot.

“We feel we’ve got a good team and we’re excited about what we can achieve. We’ve got lots of players who play at big clubs in Europe and are used to these kind of matches.

“We’re only thinking one game at a time, going step by step. You can’t start thinking about who you will play next if you win. It’s the same when we asked if we would rather play England or Belgium, you cannot answer because this World Cup is very closely contested. So you just have to stay calm and see what comes.”

Theiris a lot of expectancy in England at the moment despite the narrow defeat by Belgium, but I think that Colombia have just as much reason to feel they have every chance of going though as well. I am definitely looking forward to this one….
