Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with the exit door this summer, but Arsenal boss Wenger is keen to keep him at the club.
The former Southampton youth product enjoyed his best season of his career last term, flourishing in a number of roles, including a previously untried wing-back role and as a deep-lying midfielder.
Despite his impressive term, he still remains as a squad member, and not an integral first-team option, but has been selected to start in our last two competitive matches, the Community Shield and FA Cup final both at left wing-back.
Oxlade has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and has so far failed to agree terms on a new deal, while Chelsea and Liverpool are both believed to be monitoring his situation, with bids claimed to have been eyed by the pair.
Arsene Wenger is keen to keep a hold of the 23 year-old, and has praised his ability in an attempt to persuade him to stay put.
‘I think he’s had in his career some bad moments,’ said Wenger.
‘He’s had some small injuries but last year he was much more stable.
‘Personally I believe he is a hugely talented player who is on the way up. He will continue to move up because the potential is there.
‘Today he is conscious of his qualities. Personally I believe he will be a very great player.’
Chamberlain certainly showed he has all the attributes to succeed at the top level, and I sincerely hope we can give him enough regular football this season to convince him to stay with us in the long run.
