So Ranieri is sacked! The man who managed so many big teams but never won a major title until last year, when he managed a miraculous championship with Leicester. The fairytale of players who became champions out of nothing really and the same players who were throwing him in the air have now turned on him (according to some reports) and he was sacked.
Now before people cry and weep over the Italian we have to look at Leicester’s league position. They are one point above the relegation zone before the round starts and if you are the owner of the club who, despite unlikely, still is the champions of England, what would you do?
Hull changed managers and started to look more lively, Swansea also made a change and improved. Leicester’s league record since the start of the New Year is dreadful, to say the least, despite their 2-1 champions league loss that leaves them with a good chance of progressing.
On current form Leicester look every way like getting relegated and something had to change there. Someone has to take the blame and the negativity needs to be thrown out. It’s like restarting your PC because it was running too slow. You can’t live in the past, because lost in the memories, you’d forget that the reality isn’t great.
This is the case with Arsene at Arsenal. He’s here because of what he did over 10 years ago, not because of what he’s doing now. Ranieri winning the league last year with Leicester is as big as Arsenal winning a Champions League and Premier League double with Arsene – it’s theoretically possible but highly unlikely.
Almost every manager has come to the defence of Claudio Ranieri, but of course they would. Nobody likes being sacked, but it’s the nature of the job. Before Arsene talks about respect he should see how little Ranieri got for giving Leicester fans the best moment of their footballing lives without a doubt!
The decision was made for the better of the club at this moment in time though, and at Arsenal this is something we’ve not done since I don’t know when, because sadly I was far too young the last time Arsenal were managed by someone who wasn’t Arsene.
Arsene is lucky to be immortal at the club, but in the real world managers are judged over the current state of the team, not the past!
