Roma not giving up on Szczesny despite Juventus rumours

There have been a plethora of Arsenal transfer rumours about our much-improved on-loan keeper Wojciech Szczesny since the season ended. First of all we were informed that Napoli were sure to sign him after the Roma boss Luciano Spalletti left the club.

Then we were told that Szczesny had been in talks with Juventus over a move to the Serie A Champions, and was supposed to have agreed to sign a 4million a year contract if the Old Lady could agree a transfer fee with the Gunners.

But his agent David Mannessah denied that one as well, saying: “There is still no agreement with Juventus,”
“Szczesny has yet to talk with Wenger, who has been confirmed as Arsenal coach for the next two years.”

There is no doubt that Szczesny would not be happy returning to Arsenal, and he has gained a lot of respect in Italy since his departure from the Emirates, and now the Roma President Jim Pallota has muddied the waters even further, by saying that the Pole is very keen to stay in the Italian capital. “He told me that he wanted to stay with us,” Pallota said. “I’ll say more, I was surprised by the fact some of the players I thought had wanted to leave came up to me before and after the final game to say they wanted to remain.”

So, once Szczesny and his agent have spoken to Wenger, it looks like there could be a bidding war for our out-of-favour keeper. That should cheer Wenger up!
