Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has been urged to make the move to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur this summer, not Manchester City.
The England international is expected to move clubs in the coming window, having failed to agree terms over a new contract extension, and the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked.
Former Manchester City and Everton star Richard Dunne has now urged him not to make the same switch he did from the Blues to the Citizens, and recommended a move to North London instead.
“Certainly for Everton they need a bit more freshness in their team and maybe Ross does, in terms of getting a new club, having to earn a place in a team and not have the comforts of being at home and living in his hometown,” the Irishman said.
“Maybe he needs to go out and challenge himself and start trying to progress and get a place back in the England team.”
He added: “Maybe an Arsenal or Tottenham will be better for him.
“I think Manchester City will try and sign stronger and maybe better players – players who have won things over the years.
“Barkley is certainly going to move to a big club but I don’t think it will be City. I don’t imagine he will get the games he needs.”
I’m not sure our team needs another central midfielder this summer, with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Mohamed Elneny in the squad, although I wouldn’t mind seeing Francis Coquelin leave and a new defensive rock added to our midfield.
