Sanchez is leaving – Where does Arsenal go from here?

It appears as though failure to qualify for the Champions League is the last straw for Alexis Sanchez, who has been quite evidently frustrated by Arsenal’s inability to challenge for the title. Considering that the forward has been in red-hot form, there is certainly no shortage of suitors for his services and Bayern Munich are now seemingly on the cusp of signing Sanchez, with Chilean newspaper El Mercurio claiming that the Bundesliga champions have reached a £50m agreement with Arsenal and have also agreed personal terms with the player.

With just one year left to run on his contract, there is nothing the club can do to stop Alexis from leaving, unless of course the club are open to the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer next summer. But with the Gunners looking likely to get a transfer fee in the range of £50m for a player who wants to leave and has just one year left on his contract, Bayern’s offer will be too good to turn down and we can be pretty confident that the FA Cup final this weekend will be the Chilean’s final appearance in an Arsenal shirt.

So where do Arsenal go from here? Well, there is an 18-year-old by the name of Kylian Mbappe who has put the entire football world on notice with his performances. But as Wenger himself admitted, Arsenal are likely to be priced out of a deal with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United all said to be interested. So apart from the young Frenchman, there are the two Dortmund boys, Marco Reus and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, both of whom look likely to be on the move this summer.

Both players are similar to Sanchez in terms of style and may be open to the prospect of joining the Gunners. But it remains to be seen if Wenger actually intends on replacing the player. For all we know, the Frenchman may hype up Iwobi as the next Alexis. Simply put, the fact of the matter is that Alexis is leaving and whether or not he is adequately replaced will determine where the club is heading. From this point on, it is most certainly a question of how ambitious the club is.
