Should Arsenal accept this transfer bid for veteran midfielder

When Arsene Wenger next has to decide which of his Arsenal players to make the new club captain, I winder if the Frenchman will consider the heavy recent turnover of those wearing the armband and go for one of the younger Gunners. We have been ripping through captains of late, with Fabregas, Van Persie and Tomas Vermaelen all leaving the club.

And according to a Metro report the manager may have to make that decision sooner than expected. He would first have to decide whether to accept a transfer bid for Mikel Arteta from the Italian champions Juventus, something the report claims could be coming our way in the January window.

Juventus are apparently looking at the Spaniard as a sort of Pirlo replacement in midfield and I would suggest that we should let him leave if he fancies a spell in Serie A. It is not as though he has been playing much for us these days and at 33-years old his career might last a bit longer on the continent than it would in the rough and ready EPL. Meanwhile it looks like Flamini is already ahead of him for the first team.

If Wenger does what we all hope and signs a top quality defensive midfielder next month, Arteta’s playing opportunities will be even further reduced and when Coquelin is back I just cannot see him getting on the pitch at all. We would not get much money for him but his contract is due to run out next summer anyway.

What do you think Gooners?
