Should Arsenal cash in on Gnabry? We may have no choice…..

Gnabry set for Werder Bremen move?

In what comes as quite a shock so late on into the window, Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry is reportedly a transfer target for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, they understood that Bayern Munich had identified Gnabry as a late transfer target for this summer, but it would appear they got the buying club wrong. Werder officials recognised what an amazing Olympic tournament the youngster had whilst playing for the German national team. Gnabry scored six goals in six games this summer as his team won silver, coming second to hosts Brazil. His form at the tournament raised an interest in the player from many sides in Europe, all wishing to know his availability from Arsenal.

Gnabry has been less successful at Arsenal than his efforts this summer, because although he has shown good form when playing for the Gunners, it has never been enough to warrant him a regular place in the squad in Arsene Wenger’s eyes. Since 2012 Gnabry has only made 18 first appearances and his Arsenal career is largely hanging off that memorable game against Swansea. After a failed spell at West Brom on loan last year, Arsenal were hoping they would have more luck with a loan move this season, however with the youngster’s contract expiring at the end of the domestic season, Wenger recognises he will have to get the German winger to commit his future to the club first. Wenger previously highlighted how he wants Gnabry to sign a new deal at Arsenal and that after investing so much time into him, the player is very much in his plans. However after 4 years of trying to make a breakthrough to the first team, whilst players like Iwobi ‘skip the line’, surely the German will be considering his future.

It should be interesting to see where Gnabry ends up with deadline day just around the corner. If he does exit the Emirates it’ll be an interesting decision given that Wenger has already let Joel Campbell leave on loan, whilst Iwobi is currently injured.
