Should Arsenal go all out to sign Granit Xhaka?

Arsenal have already signed a midfielder of course but that is the area of the pitch that has been the hardest hit by our injury problems, and so we are still being linked with various other players for those positions. One of those has been the Swiss international Granit Xhaka who is currently starring for the German Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Granit is only 23 but has been in the senior Switzerland side for five years and has already earned 39 caps. Strangely enough he learned his trade at Basle where we have just sourced Mohamed Elneny. He moved on to Mönchengladbach and has become an integral part of the side who finished up in third place in the Bundesliga last season.

But despite the young midfielder being a key player for them, The Mirror is reporting that the German club have admitted that they would let him leave if the right offer came along.

Their sporting director Max Eberl told a German radio station, “It depends a bit on our own sporting success, it depends on Granit’s own performances and of course it depends on the figures.

“If they reach a certain level, then you could start to get dizzy. There are always situations in which every club would have to make considerations.”

He certainly sounds like a typical Wenger signings and would be a great investment for the future at his age. Perhaps it is time for Wenger to stop waiting for some of our players to fulfil their promise and start bringing in players that are already the finished product like Granit (and Elneny?)

Should Wenger go and pay whatever Moenchengladbach will accept for Xhaka?
