Should Arsenal pay Ozil more than Alexis?

OZIL set to be offered more than Alexis in contract negotiations!

Yesterday news broke that Arsenal had stopped all contract negotiations with contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However today it’s being reported that Arsenal do plan on offering Ozil a lot more than his teammate, in what is a rather surprising move!

The sagas surrounding Ozil and Alexis have been lasting all season, with negotiations first opening last summer. It seems that the main demands are around ambition at Arsenal, something which is very doubtful at the moment. But of course finances also play their part and it’s understood that both are in demand of £200k plus. Despite Arsenal’s best efforts, there has been little to agree on so far, let alone getting signatures on the dotted line.

The Gunners have had contract offers drawn up for the duo, probably for quite some time. However with neither willing to accept, Arsenal will have to up their offers financially. The last time the contract offers were widely reported, it was understood the club was offering around £160-180k each for the players. Now however, with the contracts ticking down day by day, Arsenal have supposedly increased their offers and Ozil has supposedly been given the bigger wage.

Both players are understood to desire at least £200k, but it’s only Ozil that has been offered said amount. Alexis on the other hand is still being offered £20k short of the demand.

It seems like a relatively strange decision by the Arsenal bosses, but of course nothing is particularly surprising when it comes to the Gunners management anymore. However it is odd for Arsenal to offer a player, who has been largely inconsistent during his Arsenal career, more money than our biggest star. Out of the two, it’s Alexis who deserves to be on the bigger financial package and to be honest, out of the two I think it’s Alexis who is more motivated by finances in his demands.

Ozil’s future seems quite heavily dependent upon Arsene Wenger’s commitment to the club. Whilst Sanchez seems to be more demanding towards being paid a higher figure up with his fellow world class footballers across the continent. Both players obviously desire more ambition from Arsenal, but right now I don’t know how likely it is that we’ll see much improvement in the trophy cabinet over the coming years.

I don’t expect both to leave in the summer, but it seems that if this latest twist of events is deemed to be true, then of course it’s likely to put another thorn in Alexis’ side. After all the Chilean just wants more of a challenge and to be paid on par with the talent he shows week in week out.
