Jack Wilshere has been at Arsenal since he was a little kid and ten years ago he was considered one of the hottest prospects in the English game, but never-ending injury problems saw him play very little although he was still considered to have enormous unfulfilled potential.
Wilshere was one of Arsene Wenger’s favourites, but even the Frenchman suggested that Jack looked for a new team last summer as the club were wary of risking paying out more enormous wages to an injury-prone player.
Jack did manage to play in 38 games last season and even won back a first team place, which prompted Arsenal to make him a new contract offer, albeit with clauses related to fitness and playing time, but Wilshere decided to try and hold out for a better offer. But Jack’s performances were hardly inspiring in the latter part of the season and his hopes of impressing at the World Cup with England was also denied him and now his options are looking rather limited.
Today it has been reported in the Standard that Jack is now trying to open talks with Arsenal again but he “wants assurances over his role in the team and a clearer idea of Emery’s plans for next season before committing to one of the most crucial contracts of his career.”
I personally don’t think he has even earned a new contract as he is but a shadow of his former self, and I don’t think many other clubs would risk giving him a big money contract either without performance-related clauses. If Emery is really creating a new regime at Arsenal then he should be giving some of our youngsters more playing time ahead of Jack, like Maitland Niles, Nelson, Willock and now Yacine.
Don’t bring back Jack!
