Should Arsenal sell Danny Welbeck in January and bring back Reiss Nelson?

All the Arsenal transfer rumours so far have been about Aaron Ramsey, who is out of contract this summer, but no-one seems to be worried about losing Danny Welbeck, who has been arguably performing much better than the Welshman this season.

Welbeck’s contract is also up in June, and according to today’s Guardian, Crystal Palace are keen to take him across London in January. They reported……

Crystal Palace are set to be active in the January transfer market and fancy Danny Welbeck for £10m to solve their Christian Benteke-shaped goalscoring problem. Arsenal are willing to cash in as ‘Dat Guy Welbz’ is out of contract in the summer and they are already set to lose out on a transfer fee for Aaron Ramsey, set to join up with Ivan Gazidis at Milan.

This is probably the first time in many many years that Welbeck has been injury-free and actually scoring goals in the first half of the season. Should this be the time to cash in?

I would say well both him and Ramsey, put the money in the kitty for the summer transfers, and bring Reiss Nelson back from Hoffenheim. The BBC reported…..

The 18-year-old has scored five goals in six league appearances for Hoffenheim, bagging his first just 14 minutes into his debut.

Only one other foreign teenager has ever scored more goals in a Bundesliga season than Nelson, and that was Ousmane Dembele who’s six goals in 2016-17 for Borussia Dortmund earned him a £96.8m move to Barcelona.

I think he has surely dne enough to prove he can make it at the highest level, and if we have to lose Welbeck and Ramsey I don’t see why Nelson couldn’t come back and fill in with ease.

What do you think?

  1. 10M for Welbeck is insulting he has a lot of talent and improving everyday, if he wants to stay i would offer him another 4 year contract without a second thought

    1. Agree

If Walcott was sold for twenty millions, Welbeck’s price should be higher because he is more versatile, a wonderful team player and very good in the air

Unless if Welbeck doesn’t want to stay, then Arsenal might as well take whatever they can get like Ramsey’s case

    2. 10m for Welbeck is ok. But really Arsenal should be looking to reinvest that money on Nicholas Pepe not relying on Reiss Nelson. If we don’t get him January, might be difficult when other big clubs show interest

      1. PLEASE DO NOT SELL DA WELBECK!! I had to shout this over the internet so my voice could be heard. I fully agree that we need to get rid of ‘deadwood’ players but Welbeck isn’t one of them and I don’t want Ramsey to go either. Welbeck is very useful to the team in a tatical/positional sense. I’ve always admired him from his days as a United player.

I think I’ll start a Welbeck fan club because I’m his biggest fan…

All I need is his shirt, phone number, house address, DoB and bank details and then my mission will be complete… MUWAHAHAHAHAHA 🙂

** I’ve been catching up on all the posts I’ve missed, there’s been some really good writing/comments.

  2. Welbz, is scoring/assisting and making the England Squad. He is playing cup football regularly and getting time from the bench.

No other top 5/6 team is going to give him that. If he is happy to stay and accept he will not be in front of Lacazette and aubameyang up top then great give him a new contract, but only pay what an understudy is worth.

Sell Ramsey, though for whatever we can get, ditto Jenkinson, elneny and even koscielny and Cech if they are not staying. We cannot afford to keep letting players go for stupidly low amounts or free. Spurs and Chelsea, seem to get limo prices for average players, we get bus fare money.

The Ox can be excluded from that last comment.

  3. I’m Okay with Welbeck as a squad player but against bringing back Nelson during the Jan transfer window. Let the boy enjoy his game and season over there, let him grow on what he’s building there and let him be with us next season. Knowing arsenal fans, if he’s recalled, most of them will want him scoring goals and assisting in literally every game he plays, the same was expected from Iwobi when he came up, pressure will be on Nelson to deliver what he’s doing over there in Germany. So I suggest he stays there and enjoy his season, let him grow more

  4. So first you guys write articles about why our youngsters ‘need to go out on loan’ and then 6 games in you are writting articles about why they should return “because they have proven they can play in a big league” this is not Fifa19

    1. Who is/are this mysterious”you guys,” you refer to? If you have something to say to SPECIFIC individuals, then why not address them by name and not muddy the water with a cowardly generalised “you guys”. Using “you guys” is a cop out by you. Either put up or shut up. Be specific, if you have the guts!

          1. You should start replying to yourself then Jon 😉
Reading you say that makes me think of the phrase about not throwing stones if you live in a glass house…

Next time someone asks me why I reply to you so often I think I’ll just copy/&paste what you said XD

  5. So Arsenal will tell Welbeck they are selling him and he’ll just do what he’s told and go where he’s sent? Or just possibly he might wait until the end of the season and do his own deal when as a free agent he’ll be able to do a better deal (for him, obviously, not for Arsenal). He’s in control, not the club.

  6. Arsenal should know better than us Gooners because they are the ones who are with their players training them in training sessions and managing them on daily basis. Ours is to watch them playing in games for Arsenal. In this regard, Welbeck has appeared to have improved on his abject last season performance for Arsenal. Which made us Gooners to start calling for his sale by the club. Although Welbeck still needs to upgrade on his improved performance for Arsenal this season in all aspect of his game such as to be ready at all times to receive assists without handing ball like he did in the last Liverpool game when he handled the ball in the box after receiving assist from Iwobi. He should also anticipate a coming assist to him by running forward ahead of him marker to receive it. Iwobi tried to give him another assist in the Liverpool game in the box but Welbeck marker blocked it by running forward past him. Welbeck should also improve on the quality of his heading in the box for Arsenal so that he’ll stop missing his heading attempts to score for Arsenal but mostly score for them. If Welbeck can further improve on his goals scoring ratio significantly for Arsenal between now and January window to convince, Arsenal should reward him with a good contact extention in January I would think. And that should not hinge on the recall of Nelson from Hoffenheim in January to sell Welbeck in the process. For, both Welbeck and Nelson can be at Arsenal next season.

  7. If Welbeck wants more first XI game he should be exchanged with cash for Zaha.
But also i wont mind keeping him, he is as good as Lukaku on his day n is a good utility n bench option.
But we MUST get a winger in January, preferably a right winger with Iwobi in LW.
…and that doesnt include Reiss Nelson who MUST be allow to learn consistency in Bundesliga.

  8. For January, based on priority we need
    a RightWinger
    a CentreBack
    a LeftWinger
    a DM (backup to Torreira)
a versatile FullBack (can operate both from the right and left back effectively ,Azpilicueta-esque)

Personally, i’ll like O.Dembele, Koulibaly, A.Martial, Thomas Partey, Hysaj

    1. Thomas Partey will be great.
Thank you but we dnt need ManUtd players.
We should be happy if we buy anyone in January, although if our goal is to get to Champions League then we need at least two.

  9. 10m is ridiculous
If Arsenal can get at least 15-20m on welbeck I think that is okay.
Am against renewing his contract, cause the guy is a con, he want to rob Arsenal of contract and get injured again.

  10. ya’ll should lay off dat guy welbz man, i mean the guy has always been a fighter works his socks off and this season his scoring goals here and there when ever he gets a chance and he’s a 3rd choice striker, what more do you want from him??

  11. I see no connection between Welbeck being sold in Jan, even if that could happen without his personal agreement, which it CANNOT, while he is under contract AND Nelson returning early from his loan. My instinct is that neither will happen in Jan but that by next season Nelson will become a regular in our eleven, while Welbeck will not, even though he may or may not still be here. My point is that they are different type players and I consider Nelson by far the more naturally talented.

  12. Idk what is going to happen to Welbeck but we should let Nelson continue to develop. He’s getting a lot of regular game time, and he’ll be better for it next season. Disrupting his loan wouldn’t be wise. We have enough wide options to get through the season

  13. Neither will move in January which is how it should be as one transfer window a year is surely enough.I have a lot of admiration for Welbeck who is a very decent man who gives his all for Arsenal whenever he pulls on the jersey. If Nelson continues to impress he will no doubt feature for us next season whether Danny is with us or not.

  14. We shoud sell all the Wenger UK boys expecially if they are coming from ManUtd. Wenger bough Welbeck to make a revenge after rvp leaving. We should bring back Nelson and play him like we play Iwobi… no fear, no pushing, patience and results will emerge!
Let’s cash on Welbeck next. He is obviously a limited player and we can find somebody equally strong but with more control of the ball. Even Giroud is much better technicaly then Welbeck.

  15. Also we are getting at least a winger sooner or later (preferrably a RW) which means Aubameyang n Lacazette ll play fewer games together and be rotated more often… like Pep did with Aguero-Jesus last season or Mourinho did with Benzema-Higuain at Madrid.
Therefore Welbz will play even fewer games if he is retained.

  16. I have said it already and i will say it again, you need squad players, because an 11 will not will not endure a season of several competitions, players such as Elneny, Welbeck and others help to keep our team fresh, they are not the super stars, but they know their role and do their job.
