I am not a Chelsea fan, but seeing Drogba in his second spell still doing the business for Chelsea gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. It was like watching a repeat of history. Although Drogba has tormented my Arsenal team quite severely over the years I was quite pleased when Mourinho signed him up for a second spell. Drogba will probably call it quits at Chelsea which will be the most befitting end to his amazing career with the Blues.
We also have our own hero – a man who’s arguably the best Premier League player ever – who could do with such a swansong as Drogba is having at Chelsea. Thierry Henry is just a year older than Drogba and having played 35 times for the New York Red Bulls in the just concluded season is still very fit for a man of his age. Wenger and Ray Parlour have recently mooted the possibility of Henry returning to Arsenal in a coaching capacity, but I still think there’s still enough fuel in the tank to do one half season for this current Arsenal side, before hanging his boots for ever.
Even if he doesn’t play many games – and he shouldn’t expect to – there’s a lot to be gained from having him in the squad. For example, forwards like Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott have often been compared with Thierry Henry due to their blistering pace and playing style. They still don’t quite have his finishing yet and simply interacting with him daily in the training ground could help them improve that aspect of their game. The move would also have a huge morale boosting effect on the squad as well which could have a positive impact on the pitch even if he doesn’t play.
Our most pressing need at the moment is of course not in the striking department but in defence and midfield. It would seem that there’s no place for Henry in the present squad, but space could be created in order to make such a fairytale happen. Yaya Sanogo is currently down the pecking order behind Welbeck and Giroud and if both are fit is unlikely to get any game at all. A loan move in January would do no harm to his development and would allow us to sign Henry – and for free!

How about Henry lifting the FA cup trophy at Wembley for one last time – or pushing it further – finally winning the Champions League trophy that he desperately wanted to win for Arsenal but was never able to?
