Should Arsenal start Walcott against Southampton

I am going on the assumption that the Arsenal injury update given on Danny Welbeck was not some crafty ploy by Arsene Wenger and that the England international striker really has got a thigh problem that will keep him out of the away game against Southampton tomorrow.

And assuming that the boss is not going to change his favourite formation, that leaves him with the options of Alexis Sanchez, Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chuba Akpom and Theo Walcott to fill the three forward positions.

I think Wenger is seriously considering playing Walcott on the right, with Alexis in the centre and either Podolski or the Ox on the left. Theo is fit apparently, but is his lack of match time too much of a risk? I am sure the decision would be easier if the flying Englishman had played even a little bit of football in recent weeks, but for some reason Wenger has kept him on the bench.

If that was for cautious reasons, should he really not throw that caution to the wind for one game? It is an important game, of course, and Walcott could be a very useful player to have on the pitch from the start or as a late sub. And the fact that he would be facing his former club would usually guarantee a good performance.

But what if he suffers a recurrence of his injury problem? Is it worth the risk? Do we really have a choice?
