Southampton boss confirms talks for Arsenal’s Walcott – Deal likely?

There have been numerous Arsenal transfer rumours regarding a possible return to Southampton of their ex-starlet Theo Walcott, who moved from the South Coast to the Emirates at the tender age of 16 with great expectations on his young shoulders. But now he has dropped completely out of first team contention and can’t start a Premier League match with two many other stars ahead of him in the pecking order.

Walcott has always been the most likely Arsenal player to leave in January, and even our legend Ian Wright advised him to move on a couple of months ago. “I think so, for his own sake,” Wright said when asked if Walcott should be looking at a transfer from the Emirates.

“I’m not sure where he can go now with Arsenal and he’s only playing in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.

“He’ll want to finish on a high in respect of what he’s doing, he’s given Arsenal great service in the time he’s been there and for me he should move on for himself.”

A return to Southampton was always rumoured to be the most likely outcome, and the Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed his interest once again.”I have been talking about him,” he said.

“He is a good player, but I don’t know with the negotiations, with the market. I imagine that this type of player would have a lot of possibility. For us it’s not easy.

“Hopefully we can bring somebody that can help us be stronger. This is our target now.

“We know the market is difficult, but we are working on that.”

Now that the Saints have received 75million for Van Dijk, I am sure it won’t be that difficult for them to come to an arrangement with Arsenal for Walcott. And I can’t see Wenger blocking it either…
