Surprise stats prove ‘clinical’ Arsenal’s EPL title credentials

While a lot of Arsenal fans, myself included, have been a bit concerned of late about the lack of chances that the Gunners have been creating, the fact that we still have not lost in the Premier League since the first game of the season and that we got our title challenge back on track with the win over Bournemouth on Sunday should be some comfort.

If that does not do it for you Gooners, maybe the statistical report by Metro comparing the shooting and scoring stats of the Premier League title chasers will do the trick, as the report shows that Arsenal are doing better than all of our our rivals in the two key areas of goals per attempt and goals scored per shots on target.

Shots per EPL goal:
Arsenal – 6.71
Chelsea – 7.17
Man City – 7.86
Liverpool – 7.88
Tottenham – 11.63
Man United – 12.20

Shots on target per EPL goal:
Arsenal – 2.14
Man City – 2.66
Chelsea – 2.69
Liverpool – 2.97
Tottenham – 3.89
Man United – 4.16

This might not mean too much to you and there is definitely a case for saying that stats do not win titles, but I think these are quite telling as Arsenal have often been accused of being wasteful with our chances so if that has changed it is a huge plus point.

Also we should remember that with Santi Cazorla back in the middle the Gunners are likely to be be creating more chances for our clinical forwards to finish off. Add to this the fact that we are now stronger on the defensive side of the game as well and you have good reasons to be upbeat about this season being more likely to see Arsenal produce a proper title challenge.
