Striker told to pack his bags and leave Arsenal

Most Arsenal fans are agreed on the idea that Arsene Wenger should have a top quality striker on his transfer wish list for this summer window, but your guess is as good as mine as to whether the Frenchman agrees. The boss has certainly not made any moves for Arsenal in that direction yet.

Despite Arsenal transfer rumours linking us with the Colombian international Jackson Martinez, there is no evidence that we made any attempt to sign him before he agreed a transfer to Atletico Madrid last week. Maybe one reason for Wenger to be keeping his powder dry on this is that the Gunners already have too many strikers in the squad.

Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski all finished last season out on loan and all are unlikely to feature in the first team again this time around. So the ESPN report telling how the manager of the Germany international team Joachim Low has told Podolski in no uncertain terms that he needs to find a new club where he will play regular games.

With the World Cup winners planning to add the Euro 2016 trophy to that next summer, Podolski will be hoping for a place in the team but Low’s words mean that he will probably not even make the squad if he sees out the last year of his contract with the Gunners.

The German boss said, “I want him to play at least 30 to 40 matches next season. If he comes on as ‘joker’ [impact player] in some of those matches it does not matter. He needs to play.

“Two years without regular match practice would not be a good basis for entering the European Championship.

“He should not take things as they come — he should approach Wenger to get to know where he stands. What are Wenger’s plans for him? If Wenger sees him as a substitute, Lukas needs to consider whether he wants to be that.”

I think we all know how Wenger sees Podolski and so hopefully the striker will accept that he must move on. Maybe then we will see Arsenal sign the striker we need. What do you think will happen with our front line?
