Do Arsenal really NEED a new striker in January?

The Arsenal transfer rumour mill is slowly getting into gear and building up speed for the full frontal assault that will hit us when the January transfer window is about to open. With a worryingly long injury list hitting the Arsenal squad, many fans will be expecting Arsene Wenger to sign at least one new player to boost the Premier League title challenge.

And with the attacking talents of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and the Ox currently out of action, it is that part of the team that a lot of people think the prof will have to strengthen. That is why The Mirror is reporting the latest rumour about the Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriguez as a blow to the Gunners.

The gist of the story is that Arsenal were one of a number of clubs to be keen on taking the young forward, probably on loan, in January as he is not seeing much action for the Spanish club under the reign of Rafa Benitez. The alleged blow is that the Serie A club Napoli have seriously stepped up their interest in Jese, but I do not think this will have any impact on Arsenal.

There is no reason to believe that a club fighting for the EPL title would lose out to Napoli and apart from that, we should have Walcott and the Ox back well before the window opens and Welbeck will be there or thereabouts, so unless we lose any other forwards between now and then, do you really think Wenger will try to get Jese?
