After Gus Poyet’s very public falling out with the Bordeaux bosses, it has been revealed that the Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has opened talks with the Ligue 1 side to start his club management career in France. Sky Sports reported today….
Bordeaux have begun preliminary talks with Thierry Henry’s representatives about the possibility of becoming their next manager, Sky Sports News understands.
The Ligue 1 side recently suspended manager Gus Poyet after he was critical of a transfer that had been made without his knowledge.
Bordeaux sold striker Gaetan Laborde to rivals Montpellier and Poyet reacted furiously after their Europa League win over FC Mariupol, labelling the transfer “a disgrace”..
Our old boss Arsene Wenger had already revealed that Henry wanted the post when he said, in typical Wenger fashion: “Yes, he wants to do it,”
“He is intelligent and he has the qualities.
“The existential question that we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our life for the coaching profession.”
Well for me the existential question I ask myself is whether this would be a good stepping stone for Henry to take on the road to becoming Arsenal manager! The ex-hitman has trained the Gunners Youth team and then went on to be assistant manager for Belgium, who performed very well at the World Cup. It would be very interesting to see if Henry can improve a team that finished 6th in Ligue 1 under Poyet last season, but has been through a lot of turmoil in recent years. With the managerial spat though, Bordeaux, like Arsenal, have lost both their opening games, but Bordeaux are expecting a takeover very shortly and there may be funds for some more players to help him in his job.
Also, interestingly, the French side are in the final play-offs against Gent for a place in the Europa League Group stages, where they could come up against the mighty Gunners!
Now that would make for an interesting game….
