Three clean sheets – Have Arsenal now got the perfect trio in defence?

Not only have Arsenal managed to get three clean sheets in a row for the second time this season, but two of those teams were Man United and Bayern Munich (No disrespect to Watford!) and even better, we have scored 8 goals without reply in that mini-run.

So with Petr Cech in goal, and with any two of Mertesacker, Koscielny and Gabriel in front of him, have we finally got the perfect defence? It was Mert and Kos against Bayern and the BFG said after the game: “Defensively we were together like a unit, we defended to help our team-mates and we played on the counter-attack,”

“I think we were good and we had a lot of potential to score.

“Bayern hadn’t lost a game this season so it was very hard and tough for us but sometimes you need to play differently and everybody in front [of the defence] did their job well – it was very good and we need to keep this for the season.”

Against Man United,it was Mert and Gabriel in front of Cech, and the BFG was equally impressed with that partnership. “We had a good understanding [defensively],” he said. “I think a lot clicked today.

“If one of us won a duel, the other would be there and that was the same in the second half. If he [Anthony Martial] ran past one of us, which can happen, someone else would be there straight away.

“It went well from the start and that’s always crucial. When you take your chances and are strong defensively, that’s a clear indicator that you feel good.”

So now we have three excellent centre-backs can we assume that whichever pair plays we will have an equally solid defence?
