Is Danny Welbeck set to stay on the Arsenal bench?

I must admit that I feel a bit sorry for Danny Welbeck and I really believe that he was a good signing for Arsenal. I said so at the time, when a lot of Arsenal fans were acting like they had found a pound but lost a tenner when Arsene Wenger completed the signing of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on transfer deadline day last summer.

The still young England international made an immediate impact as well and quickly changed the minds of a lot of the Arsenal fans – who had not been too happy with his transfer from Old Trafford to north London. Danny’s problem is a good one for Arsenal, in that we have so many good quality options on the attacking side of things that he is once again struggling to hold down a place in the starting line-up.

And just like at his former club, when he does play it is more often than not in his less favoured role as a wide forward. Unfortunately, Danny boy, that is the price you pay for playing for a big club. At least he is appreciated here by the nmanager and most of the fans although it is easy to forget about him when everyone else is fit.

Welbeck may start the game against Middlesborough on Sunday but I have a feeling that he will be on the bench with Giroud, Walcott and Ozil in front of him. All he can do is wait and be ready to take his chance if and when it comes, but without another massive injury crisis he may be on the bench a long time.
