France manager Didier Deschamps has claimed that Olivier Giroud made the correct decision to quit Arsenal for Chelsea.
The French striker left the club as part of a three-way transfer which included our club bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium, as well as Michy Batshuayi joining Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Giroud has since found himself mostly warming the Chelsea bench instead of ours, but he has picked up two starts this month.
The 31 year-old will be hoping that his move can keep him in contention for the France squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer, but he will need to pick up plenty more minutes from now until June, and add to his one goal in a CFC shirt also.
Deschamps insists he is happy with his player’s decision to move, whilst claiming he did not play a part in his thoughts.
“I’m happy for him,” said Deschamps, who spoke to Giroud about his choice. “I’m not here to give advice. I’m here so that he is aware of the reality, to tell him things. After that, it’s his decision. I’m not going to tell him to go here rather than there. It’s up to him.”
“He’s had back-to-back starts, something that’s not happened to him in a long time,” Deschamps said. “He’s winning games, because he makes others score and scores himself. It’s a lot better to play a match from time-to-time than come off the bench, even if when he comes on, he’s also effective. He scores a lot of goals and he makes others score. It’s better for him.”
