Welbeck’s England performance a big positive for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has already suggested that Arsenal will need to be just about perfect in the rest of the Premier League matches before the end of the season. The results will at least and even that may not be enough, but all the Gunners can do now is win our games and hope.

So the performance of our striker Danny Welbeck for England in the win over Germany last night has got to be seen as a big positive, especially if Olivier Giroud can take the form he showed for France back into his club games. Welbeck did not score but to be fair to him none of the chances fell to him but he did look very sharp.

The Arsenal forward was full of energy and was involved in most of England’s good play. He tracked back well and popped up all over the pitch when he was needed and he caused the Germany defence all sorts of problems with his pace, power and touch and he should have had at least one assist but for poor finishing.

Roy Hodgson took him off after 70 minutes but not because of his performance. The England boss seems to be taking note of Arsenal concerns about Welbeck’s fitness so hopefully he will now wrap him in cotton wool and we will get our player back fresh and ready to face Watford.

With Alexis Sanchez due back late from international duty a performance from Welbeck on the left flank like we saw for England could be just what we need to keep up the title challenge. Is that how you would use him against Watford next weekend?
