Wenger admits Arsenal could rival Tottenham for EPL star

There has been a plethora of Arsenal transfer rumours linking the Gunners with the Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez since the Algerian international put out a statement setting out his intention to leave the club this summer. The Foxes are sure to be looking for a large profit on the 400,000 they paid for the 26 year-old just three years ago, but that should not be a problem for a big club like Arsenal.

When Arsene Wenger was directly asked if the Gunners were going to bid for him, Le Prof replied: “We have not made a bid, but personally, I like the player, yes,” Wenger told beIN Sports. “I think he made a huge impact when they won the championship.

“Like at everybody else at Leicester, this season has been more challenging, but it doesn’t take away from his qualities.

“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. No, we have not. When I say ‘not yet’ it means it could happen. It might not happen.”

The report also indicates that our great rivals Tottenham Hotspurs could also join the race for last season’s Player Of The Year, and just for a change Spurs can offer their targets Champions League football next season while Arsenal will be in the Thursday night Europa League.

I think Wenger is possibly waiting to see how our contract talks go with all the players entering the last 12 months of their current deals before making a concrete offer. Who would have to leave to make room for Mahrez?
