Wenger blames agents for Arsenal star’s exit rumours

Arsene Wenger was adamant that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez would be staying at Arsenal this season, despite the fact that neither of them had signed a new contract extension before the summer. Le Prof has stuck to his word, but this has only increased the exit rumours about our two superstars – which is bound to continue until it is confirmed where they will be playing next season.

The latest rumours stated that Arsenal had given permission for Ozil to speak to other clubs, and that the German had agreed terms for him to join Barcelona in January, but Wenger has blamed agents for feeding the media and denied there is any agreement in place, when directly asked about Ozil and Barca. “No.” the boss said. “What kind of control can I have over that? All these people have agents who can talk to anybody. That doesn’t disturb people, that happens all through their career.”

“Nobody knows what will happen when the players reach the end of their contracts. Our worry is to perform on Sunday, that’s it.

“They want to turn up and put in good performances. I have no concerns. I am more concerned about the team performance.”

Last week against Tottenham it certainly looked like Ozil had not been affected by the ongoing rumours, but these are certain to multiply and intensify as we get closer to the January transfer window. Let’s hope that Wenger’s calculated gamble will pay off, or at least try and get the agents to shut up for a while!
