Wenger declares the Arsenal squad as ‘very strong’

With Petr Cech being Arsenal’s only arrival of this transfer window, all Gooners are impatiently waiting for some sign from Arsene Wenger that he is possibly targetting a new DM or superstriker, but the signals coming from Le Prof seem to indicate there will be no more new signings.

In an interview on Arsenal.com, the Boss was asked which player had the biggest breakthrough last season, and he has also earmarked which Arsenal players will be having a big impact this coming season. For last season’s surprise he said…”You would say Francis Coquelin. He is the most unexpected player to make it from January onwards. I don’t think I am exaggerating if I say he convinced everybody that he played a huge part and contributed very well.

“Also, we bought well in the transfer market, and all those players had a good impact. I also think Gabriel will be a revelation. He didn’t have many chances this season, but I am convinced he will be a top player. We will see more of him next season.

“Also I don’t want to forget players like Calum Chambers, who had a very good start to the season, and will come back to a very good level. We had players too who were out for virtually a year with injury who are coming back, like Theo and Serge Gnabry, so the squad is very strong.”

Further to this he also emphasised that he thinks that the squad is nearly perfect, which again indicates that he feels has little need to buy any more additions. “What I have learnt about my team is that they have an exceptional mentality. We made some changes on the defensive front and they turned out to be very positive. The balance looks good now, in fact I would say we are close to a perfect balance in the team.

“Especially given the players we have coming back, like Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, I have learned that we have a very promising squad ahead of next season.”

As we all know the players mentioned (i.e. Gabriel, Chambers, Gabriel, Gnabry, Walcott and Wilshere) hardly played at all last season, and with those added to the full team that played most of the campaign, you can see why Wenger doesn’t think we really need any more additions?
