Wenger drops biggest hint yet that he’s staying at Arsenal

Following Arsenal’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was in a jovial mood as he addressed the pre-match press conference ahead of the mid-week clash against Leicester City. On being asked about his future, the Arsenal manager remained coy on the subject but did drop a hint that he will stay on beyond the end of the season by admitting that he is looking at transfer targets for the next campaign.

The Frenchman said: “Yes, of course I am (looking at transfer targets). I work until the last day of the season for the future. “Transfer targets are important for the future of the club. That (my future) is secondary, the future of the club is important.”

For me, this is most certainly a sign that Wenger will sign a new contract and continue at the helm for at least a couple more seasons. Otherwise, it would not make sense for him to be active in the transfer market. If he were to leave, then the onus would be on whoever replaces him to come in and build their team. Let’s face it, if Wenger was going anywhere, an announcement would have been made by now to at least give a sense of relief to the masses of frustrated Gooners.

But whether you are WOB or AKB, the reality of the situation is that Wenger is staying and we will have to get behind the team as they once again chase a top-four finish and an FA Cup as a silver lining. With Wenger finally showing signs of moving with the times by playing a back-three system, Arsenal fans can only hope that Wenger will change his transfer policy as well and bring in world-class talent who can carry the Gunners to future success.
