So Wenger has now been confirmed as Arsenal’s manager for another two seasons, but surely the pressure is now on him to deliver the title, or the protests will be even louder at the end of this contract. Wenger has promised the fans that he can take the club further. He said on Arsenal.com: Let’s be together to support our players, to support the club and all give our absolute best to be at the level that we want to be.
“We can move up to the next level, I’m convinced of that, by having faith in the way we want to play football and by supporting the players we have already. Of course we’ll try to strengthen our squad to be stronger next season, but we want to be faithful to the way we want to play the game. We want to support this way [of playing] all together.”
Arsenal fans are not of the same breed. We don’t want simply to watch beautiful football, we want Wenger to finally deliver the Premier League title again, and the Gunners legend Thierry Henry agrees completely. “As an Arsenal fan, and as a guy who had Arsene as a coach and have maximum respect for him, I’m happy to see him at the club. But time will tell..
“They finished the season strong, although they have done that before. Raising yourself for the FA Cup final, to beat one team on one day is one thing. To do it over 38 games is a different story.
“Everyone is waiting for the title; the club, the players, the fans and Arsene himself.
“That’s what I want to see because raising your game for one day is one thing, but everybody is waiting for that to be done over 38 games.”
“I can only go with what Wenger is saying. He says the team is good enough.
“He might buy one or two players having, as he’s claimed, created a dynamic to win the title finally. But I’ve heard that before, and the year before, and the year before.
“Hopefully a change in system might be the thing that helps them win the title next year.”
Henry doesn’t sound too convinced. As he said we have heard all this before, but it looks like we just have to hope that he really can improve the side next season to be totally consistent. I guess we have little choice but to accept that Le Prof is there for the next two years, and get behind the team and cheer them on to glory next season.
