Wenger praises Arsenal fans and declares contract decision imminent

Arsenal fans have been assured that Arsene Wenger’s decision on whether to extend his contract at the club will be declared imminently.

The Frenchman is out of contract come the end of the season, and many supporters are adamant that he should leave this summer, but the club appear to have other ideas.

Stan Kroenke is believed to have held crunch talks over the possibility of a new contract, despite protests from fans who wish for the contrary, but the manager has moved to praise those supporters for their attitude during yesterday’s hard-fought draw with Man City.

“I must say, despite all that has happened on the fans front, our fans were fantastic today,” said the Frenchman, whose side twice hit back to earn a draw against City.

“In very difficult moments our fans, at 1-0 down and 2-1 down, could have turned against us but I think they were absolutely sensational to get us through those difficult moments.”

When asked about his future, he insisted that his decision is undecided, but his love for the club is undeterred.

He added: “I’ve shown great loyalty and always committed. I don’t know how long I am here but I love the club and will do my best. I am clear in my mind, it will be soon, don’t worry.”

Does yesterday’s result take some pressure off the manager? Will the draw have persuaded Arsene to extend his stay? Could the fans support during the match have elated him after some tough times?
