Wenger praises Bellerin, Ozil and Alexis – And says they should stay at Arsenal

Arsenal are just one Cup Final away from the end of the season, and it will not be much longer before we know whether Arsene Wenger will be still be our manager next season or not. After that we will then be concentrating on the Arsenal transfer rumours for the summer. Our three biggest players that could be moving on for large transfer fees are Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Hector Bellerin, and Wenger praised all three of them following our last day win over Everton.

First of all there was Bellerin, who seemed to fit perfectly into our new formation as a wing-back. “It is [tailor-made for him],” Wenger said on Arsenal.com. “We have a team who can express the strength of many players in their positions.

“You could see that Ozil is blossoming as well, Alexis, Welbeck and Giroud are all doing well. Overall, it’s great to see that the team is responding very well.

“They have played well and are focused, together, the speed and the quality of our game is great. The team has moved forward well and it’s a pleasure to watch.”

The Gunners finished the season with an excellent run of wins, but the failure to make the Top Four could also have a big impact on the contract situations. But an even bigger immediate blow is that we won’t have Koscielny and Gabriel available for next week’s Cup Final. Wenger continued: “The negative of the day is that we are not qualified for the Champions League and that we lost two centre backs on the same day, a position where you do not expect to lose people. That’s disappointing.

“But overall, I still give a huge credit to the players because what they’ve done is absolutely fantastic. They did fight until the end.”

They fought but they ultimately failed, but Wenger is hoping this good run could help to persuade his stars that there could be better things to come next season. “You would want to think that the players have learned from this difficult period we have gone through and have responded very well. I personally believe that it’s important to keep this group of players together, and they will come back stronger next season.”

I am sure they could bounce back (one of Wenger’s favourite sayings after any failure) but I doubt very much that we will have all of those stars staying, not without Champions League football to help persuade them…
