Wenger reveals why he doesn’t lose the plot with Arsenal players!!

It can be frustrating for Arsenal fans at times, when the team or a particular player have just come off the pitch after an absolute shocker. Unlike some managers (cough, cough Mourinho and Fergie I’m looking at you) the man we call the Prof is always supportive of his Gunners.

To be fair to the Frenchman, he has always been fairly calm after the fact, even though he has sometimes let his emotions boil over on the touchline. But the boss has revealed in an Arsenal.com report that he thinks it has become even more important in the modern game to treat the players and staff he works alongside with more respect.

So that means less of the hairdryer, cup kicking style of management and more of the arm around the shoulder. Wenger also feels that his job is not just to tell people what to do, but to explain to them why he wants them to do it. For Arsenal fans, I don’t think we really care too much how he approaches the job, as long as it gets the results we want.

Wenger said, ““I believe that the modern generation is characterised in particular by the ‘why?’ You have to explain things to the people you manage – people are better informed, better educated and want to know more.

“You are in a position where you have to explain why you do something and what the purpose of it all is – and there are more demands made communication-wise.

“You are still the boss, and it is you who makes the decisions, but you have to explain things much better than you did 20 or 30 years ago.”

Most of the players Wenger has worked with seem to appreciate his approach and he has a great reputation in the game. But sometimes, would you not like to see the Frenchman get a bit tougher after a poor performance?
