So while all Arsenal fans are wondering who will replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates, there are many clubs all over the world that would love to see Wenger manage their teams. David Dein said yesterday that he is already getting enquiries. “Over the last few years, I know for a fact he’s been approached by some of the biggest clubs in the world – I think of Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, the national team wanted him at one stage.” Dein said. “There will be no shortage of offers.
“I personally had calls from various people yesterday, saying, ‘can I speak to him?’.
“The question is does he want to do it anymore?
“He’s going to be 69 in October but he’s extraordinarily fit. He is the same weight as when I met him – 75 kilos.”
There is no doubt that Wenger wants to carry on as manager after leaving Arsenal, and he made it clear after yesterday’s win. “In what way you do not spend 22 years of your life for every single day with maximum energy for the cause, and you walk away blowing your whistle? Of course, I dedicated my life to this club and I’m not scared to say that. Sometimes certainly in excess, but at the end of the day that’s how I am and in my next job I think I’ll be the same again.”
So where will that job be? PSG (6/1) must be the likely favourites because of his connection with Paris and the owners, although Monaco (10/1) may be better suited as they are also renowned for bringing youngsters through to the senior side, and of course he has managed there before, many moons ago! Lyon are also rated as a 12/1 outsider…
The France national team (7/2) may also be looking for a new boss after the World Cup as well, and so will England (8/1), and he has been linked with both those jobs in the past…
An early rumour was that Everton (8/1) wanted him to replace Sam Allardyce. The owners at Goodison Park are very good friends with Alisha Usmanov who has always supported Arsene and wanted Kroenke to give him better players. He has also been tipped to take over at Chelsea, but that is surely impossible! Wenger was actually asked if he could manage another EPL team yesterday, and he replied: “I don’t know how well I would deal with that.
“It’s difficult to say never, but at the moment I’m too attached to this club.
“I honestly cannot tell you much more, because I don’t want you to come back to me in six months and say you lied to us.”
Personally I think he will be going to PSG, not just because of his connections there, but because they will offer him as much if not more than he is currently earning at Arsenal….
