Why Arsenal can win 3-way transfer race for brilliant EPL striker

Arsenal fans have often heard, and are pig sick of hearing if you are anything like me, the comments from Arsene Wenger about the lack of top quality players out there and the fact that the ones that are there happen to be just too hard to get hold of.

So the news reported by The Sun about the Nigeria international striker Odion Ighalo and the acceptance of his current club Watford that they may have to sell him in the summer should come as music to the ears of the prof.

Assuming that Wenger does agree that the 26-year old forward who has settled right in to English football and scored 14 Premier League goals in his first season at this level at a rate of better than a goal every other game, would actually improve the goal shy Arsenal attack, there would still be a few obstacles in the way of Arsenal signing him.

But I do not feel that the reported transfer fee of around £20 million would be a big problem and I also feel that the Gunners would be able to beat the other clubs being linked, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, to the signature of Ighalo.

For one thing the striker has no reason to want to leave the Premier League where his game has really thrived. And unless they win the Champions League this season Chelsea are not going to be in it next year. Add to that the fact that in Alex Iwobi we have a probable future star of the Nigeria national team and this January we signed the two young Nigerians that were the stars of their under 17 World Cup winning team and you can see why Arsenal fans should feel confident of winning this three way transfer battle for Ighalo.
