Why Arsenal MUST beat Swansea!

Why Arsenal Should Go all Out To Beat Swansea! by AT

Looking at the Premier League table at the end of round 35 of the Premier League, Arsenal go into Monday night’s clash against Swansea City on 70 points, level with Manchester City and five clear of Manchester United, with Arsene Wenger’s men having a game in hand over both the Manchester clubs and with form clearly on their side.

On close analysis of how things stand, Arsenal can all but ensure automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League if we beat Swansea at the Emirates, irrespective of Manchester United’s result at Crystal Palace. Louis van Gaal’s side are currently on 65 points with just three games to play, meaning that the maximum amount of points they can finish with is 74. Should Arsenal beat Swansea on Monday night, our points tally would go up to 73 and a draw against United at Old Trafford will cause them to drop two points, meaning that they can finish with a maximum points tally of 72.

Even if we lose to United after beating Swansea, we will only need a single point from the last two games of the campaign to ensure third spot in the table, which we play against Sunderland and West Brom, both at the Emirates. With that being said, the game against Swansea will be of great significance in the race for automatic Champions League qualification as Arsenal can all but nail down a place with a victory. The Gunners also have a much better goal difference than the Red Devils, which is another crucial advantage.

While I do understand that second place is the goal for Arsenal, it does seem as though that battle will go on until the last day of the season as City seem to have finally found some form. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is Arsenal should go all out against Swansea to nail down third spot, and that will give the team a very comfortable platform to finish second, something that hasn’t been achieved in quite a while.
