Will Arsenal buy anyone before the World Cup? I doubt it….

Unai Emery has only just been installed as the new boss but there are already loads of Arsenal transfer rumours linking us with all and sundry, but with Emery and his new coaching team only just beginning to integrate themselves into the Gunners set up, have they really had enough time to assess which players they are most likely to need to reinforce the side for next season.

We have had reports that Stefan Lichsteiner has had talks at London Colney, but considering he is a free agent surely he would like to talk to any other interested parties as well before committing himself to a new contract. The seven-time Serie A winner is currently with the Switzerland national team gearing up for the World Cup and he made it clear that there is no agreement in place with us at the moment.

When asked about the Arsenal rumours the 34 year-old said: “I cannot say anything about that.”

“Nothing is finalised.

“Will it be done before the World Cup? I don’t know.”

So despite all the so-called insiders saying that it is a done deal are obviously wide of the mark. It looks like us Gunners are going to have to sit tight and be patient until the World Cup is over, and any transfer negotiations can begin in earnest at last.

Can we wait that long?
