Will Iwobi become Arsenal’s new Mesut Ozil?

The German superstar Mesut Ozil has divided the Arsenal fans ever since he arrived because of his lazy-looking stance on the pitch, even though the stats say he is by far and away one of the most creative players in the country, and definitely the record holder of the fastest 50 assists in premier League history, but that doesn’t stop his detractors from abusing him every chance they get.

The newest member of the team to be subjected to such abuse is Alex Iwobi, who has just been granted a new improved contract despite still having two years left on his present deal. Unai Emery confirmed as much today when he asked about Iwobi he said: “I have the information. I want to work with the players first. This week, Mesut, Elneny and Iwobi are starting to work with us and our first impression is very good with them. My information is that he is going to sign and continue with us.”

That has not cheered up all Arsenal fans who have denigrated him as being one of “Wenger’s favourites” and call him “flappy hands” and other such nonsense.

Well it seems that it is not only Wenger who liked him if he has been given an extension. Yes he was given many chances while still inexperienced (and the party night before the FA Cup Third Round didn’t do him any favours either) but he IS still only 22 and could have many more years of improvement ahead of him.

I just seriously hope that he doesn’t have to go through the next five years being abused like Mesut Ozil has to deal with on a regular basis.
