Will Ospina or Szczesny be Arsenal’s number 2 next year?

If I had asked this question of the Arsenal fans a few weeks ago, before Petr Cech made a late dash up and down the pitch in the final minutes of our defeat to Swansea, then I think that the young Poland international keeper Wojciech Szczesny would have got the lion’s share of the vote ahead of his Colombian rival.

After all, Shezzer has been the first choice stopper of the Italian Serie A side Roma all season and he has done very well for them, all the time gaining valuable experience, while David Ospina was still fresh in the average Gooner’s mind for that horrible fumble which handed the initiative back to Olympiacos to record their first Champions League victory on English soil.

But so far so good for Ospina since the calf injury picked up by the Arsenal number one gave him a chance to redeem himself. And now that the 27-year old has put in two excellent performances with some top class saves against Tottenham and Hull, we are starting to remember the way he impressed when coming in for the out of form Szczesny in the second half of last season.

Obviously Wenger will be keen to get Cech back in goal as soon as possible but if Ospina performs well until then the boss will have a big decision to make in the summer. It could all depend on the wishes of the two keepers, I suppose, but assuming both wish to stay, which would you want as the Arsenal number two?
