Wilshere gets his England dream – but it’s not good for Arsenal

Jack Wilshere has come back after years of injury problems, and his excellent performances have seen him win his place back in the Arsenal first team, but it looks like the Gunners have decided that they don’t want him any more and they offered him a new contract with a pay cut on a take it or leave it basis.

We all know Jack loves Arsenal and would hate to play for any other team, but they should have offered this deal BEFORE he regained form and fitness, and they may have had a chance of it being accepted.

But now he is playing well and is free to talk to other clubs he will have realised that he is wanted by other clubs more than Wenger wants to keep him, and going by the reaction by football pundits he is now a certainty to be going to Russia with the England team this summer and a good showing will see him offered much more money by other clubs.

We reported earlier that Martin Keown makes Wilshere a favourite to play for England this summer, and now another Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has echoed his statement. Campbell said: “I think Jack is a wonderful player.

“The only thing that has held him back is injuries and that’s such a shame, because he’s got great tenacity, great footwork and speed and knowledge.

“He’s got great drive and he’s got a good goal in him too.

“I’m pleased for him. England need that type of player who can play in tight areas and make thing happen.

“Jack needs games. He needs regular games, he needs to build up that stamina and he needs to get that rhythm going.

“If he stays fit all the way until the end of the season he should be in that squad, for sure.”

Jack’s only problem would be if he goes down with another injury, which is why Arsenal have been shy about paying him too much, but if he realises his dream to go to Russia he could command massive wages elsewhere.

Jack himself is just over the moon that he has finally got another England call-up after two years in the wilderness. “I’m happy of course,” wilshere said. “it’s been a while since I’ve been in there but I never gave up hope. I’ve been fortunate enough to represent my country a lot of times and it’s one of the best feelings in the world. I never gave up that little bit of hope, so I’m happy and it’s down to me now to repay him [Gareth Southgate].”

And if he does repay him and plays brilliantly for England now and at the World Cup, he will also force Arsenal to reconsider offering him such a derisory contract, and after being insulted like that, why shouldn’t he be looking at earning much more money elsewhere. Wenger has been much more loyal in the past and given contract extensions to many previously injured players, like Diaby, Arteta, Cazorla and van Persie, so it is a mystery why he didn’t do the same with Jack.

It looks like the Gunners have made a massive mistake and it will cost them a hell of a lot more if they try to get him to re-sign this summer….
