I wish I had ten bob for every time I heard a fellow Arsenal fan say that we are only two players away from winning the title, and every summer we end up disappointed that the Gunners have not brought in the players we needed the most no matter how obvious the fact is.
But it is interesting to hear Arsene Wenger saying exactly the same about our current team, despite our abysmal performances this season. Le Prof said today: “What I want to say is that this team has quality. Two years ago we finished second in the league, last year we made 75 points and won the FA Cup, we won the Community Shield, we were in the League Cup final, we are in the semi-final of the Europa League so these players have quality and I am convinced that we can show that again before the end of the season. I am convinced in the future, with two or three additions, this team has the quality to fight for the title.”
So which positions do we need these “2 or 3” players? Could one of them be a top class defensive midfielder by any chance? Because us fans have been saying this for so many years it has become boring and repetitive and boring. What about a couple of top centre-backs? Because we have all been saying for the last couple of years that Koscielny, Mertesacker and Monreal are all getting on a bit. Yes we got Holding for 5 million and we paid absolute fortunes for Mustafi, but are they seriously going to help us to a League title? I have my doubts!
So who do you think we could really get this summer that could make us in to a title wining side next season?
