Even Wenger admits it’s Chelsea’s title to lose!

A couple of days ago, the on-loan Arsenal star Jack Wilshere admitted that Chelsea are the best team in the League this season, and will probably win the title. We speculated that perhaps Arsene Wenger wouldn’t be very happy with the assessment, but it seems that Le Prof actually agrees with him! “At the moment Chelsea is the super-favourite,” Wenger said. “Their manager has made quite a big difference but it’s theirs to lose as we say here in England.

“They can still lose it. At the moment they’ve won it but they can still lose it because there’s a long way to go and it’s very difficult for everyone.

“The head-to-head will have a vital influence.”

“They have addressed well their problems, you have to give credit to Conte to find a solution that has balanced well his team.

“Of course they bought as well [David] Luiz, who stabilised well their defensive record. Overall I think that the team has been the most consistent until now.”

The last game that Chelsea lost was the brilliant 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates. Personally, as I was at the game, I thought it was quite spectacular, but Arsene doesn’t think there have been any outstanding matches yet this season but expects that to change in the New Year. “There’s more in the league than what we produced,” Wenger continued.

“I include myself in that. You always think that a Premier League game is remembered as well by the two or three games that were absolutely spectacular. At the moment we have not produced that. You have the best managers in the world in this league… I’m sure in the second part of the season that everyone will really go for it, it’s not really ‘wait and see’ anymore, it’s ‘go and take’. I am confident that in the second part of the season you will see spectacular games that we have not produced yet.

“It’s a very good league, every game is absolutely super-difficult but the spectacular side that everybody expected before now has not come out of this league yet.”

Call me cynical if you like, but Chelsea’s record-breaking 12 match unbeaten streak has been pretty spectacular as well, especially as it included the 3-1 win over Man City at the Etihad – and that run doesn’t look like ending yet. But all Arsenal can do is carry on winning their own games and hope that Chelsea get a major blip in the next few months…

It’s Chelsea’s title to lose, but the race is far from over……

Onwards and Upwards!

  1. The team that wins the title usually has all its major players in form at the same time. Costa is a monster in attack, Hazard probably the best EPL player at the moment, Fabregas putting some stunning displays. For Arsenal, players like Oxil, Xhaka, Cech, Monreal and Gabriel have been criticised lately. Let’s hope the return of Welbeck will inject the missing spark into this Arsenal side.

  2. in modern times, sometimes i feel like we have something different and phenomenal in attack when welbeck is in the team…….. Biggest barrier has always been his fitness and injuries
    .
Pray he gets over it all.

  3. Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, are all progressing well, and we’re seeing signs of Utd, and City starting to improve as well. I wonder if that has anything to do with managerial changes? Because Arsenal do not seem to progress at all! Certainly not enough to win the league.

  4. that was not encouraging at all, it sounds like he has already given up.. He needs to speak tough and charge the players and we fans to believe it.
for if there is no believe to win the title, we ll end up losing or drawing even more games we should win easily.

    1. He knows the fans are not that stupid to really believe we have a reasonable chance to win the title. 9 points is simply too much for a team that has been struggling to so any consistency in its play.

He can start speaking about winning the PL again once we are in control of our destiny again. Let’s start by winning the next 5 games before we waste our breath.

  5. I think what Wenger meant by spectacular is the football being played. Liv have looked a bit spectacular going forward at times, but very direct all the same. With all the great managers in the league everyone would be forgiven for believing that there would be allot of classic games being played, with some of the best football throughout Europe by both challengers. We’ve not seen signs of what people expected. We ourselves do usually have a period in the season where we become the great entertainers, we’ve not reached our potential yet, I think Wenger was touching on this in a round about way.
