Ozil absence a blessing in disguise for Arsenal against Bayern?

Although almost every Arsenal fans has already accepted that the Gunners will not be going through to the next stage of the Champions League after losing 5-1 in the first leg away to Bayern Munich, it would be nice for Arsenal to get something out of the return leg at the Emirates tomorrow, if only to build up a bit of the confidence that the hammering in Germany took away.

So on the surface of it the news reported by the Arsenal website about the illness stopping Mesut Ozil from being available is not good, but I think it could be a blessing in disguise.

Wenger said, “He is not in the squad, he only had one session yesterday and he was sick – he was out the whole of last week and I don’t think he is ready physically to be in the squad. He should be okay for the weekend.”

The form that our German playmaker has been showing of late was unlikely to have helped us much against Bayern and so perhaps starting with someone like the Ox who will at least put in the effort would be for the best anyway. I also would have feared that being part of another beating at the hands of Bayern would have done the German international’s fragile confidence no good whatsoever.

Whatever you think of his recent performances you cannot deny that Ozil is one of our best players and for Arsenal to get anything from the rest of the season we could do with him, starting with the FA cup clash at home to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Ozil should be nice and fresh for that match so could his continued illness is a blessing in disguise after all?

Bob.

  1. Even if Ozil is physically 100% he still won’t do anything this night.

    Let Welbeck….Perez…..Walcott…
play in front of Sanchez in the hole…Ozil won’t be missed an inch…

  2. Bayern team will complete the round beating tonight !!!
Overrated unambitious team led by untactful manager.

    1. LOL…I still wonder why Arsenal tends to put us in this situation year after year after year.
Actually, on Bee Bee Cee sports today, it was said that the odds of Arsenal beating Bayern is much less likely than the following:
      1. A woman becoming the next James Bond.
      2. The existence of Alien life being proven this year.
      3. England to win the 2018 World Cup.

Arsenal has become a laughing stock.

  3. Sadly I don’t think Arsene can pick his best 11 and even if he does, they will not perform. I sadly believe Bayern will win again comfortably. The board have to take some action here. It’s astonishing how easily we accept bad results. Going down without a fight has become the theme here at Arsenal.

  4. It really is a bitter pill to swallow when you’re team is facing a champions league game like tonight’s match. I feel fobbed off, like someone has smacked me in the face with a rotten carp while doing it.

  5. ?Zil to be nice and fresh for the visit of Mighty Lincoln? ? I tell you what, If we put in another gutless performance against Munich tonight then I’m going to be cheering on for the non league team to reach Wembley ?

  6. I would’ve liked to see us use Mavididi on a few occasions. Good goals record at youth level and a very decent dribbler. I think he would listen to Alexis. When on loan those fans said he’s got good physical strength and they liked the effort put in. That’s a nice change of pace.

  7. Lol breaking news.
?Zil is in tonight’s squad due to Iwobi illness.
I’m hearing that Sanchez, Welbeck and Walcott will all start.

  8. Even though we are almost eliminated already this match is still important to see which players have the desire to fight for our shirt. I’ll be paying attention closely.

SMH….Perez-Sanchez-Welbeck rather than Welbeck-Sanchez-Walcott. Hopefully Walcott’s coffee machine broke and he needs another one.

    Prediction: 2-2.

    1. I was just watching the pregame and the sideline reporter quoted AW saying that “our position almost puts us at an advantage” so don’t worry easy pickins

  9. Ospina, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Ramsey, Xhaka, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Welbeck, Sanchez

Substitutes: Cech, Gibbs, Paulista, Coquelin, Ozil, Perez, Giroud

  10. I want Arsene to go now but sad listening to his interview on bt sports. It’s almost like one of the directors should have been strong enough to protect Wenger from this and himself.
The guys an old man now and all of this could have been avoided if the directors had some balls and something about them.

  11. arsenal have the most dum gullible delusional fans in the league Wenger is actually managing down to the levels of the fans it doesn’t matter the line up the team Wenger put together is just not good enough bellerin not top ten right back in the league a defender who never win a header. now koscielny barely makes the French team just a average Defender ozil don’t make me laugh cech wash up Wolcott doesn’t create Opportunity goal scorer ox let me see. sadio mane should have replace him i think I’m wasting my time from the beginning of the season i was saying this
