Which midfield pair will Arsenal start against Hull?

You might think that Arsenal should be thinking about all out attack for the home match against| Hull City in the Premier League tomorrow. Even though the relegation threatened club have been on the up recently and have won games against both Liverpool and Man United in the last few weeks, their success has been built on a solid defensive display.

So when you wonder which players Arsene Wenger should start with in central midfield against the Tigers, a lot of Arsenal fans might say the most attacking ones we have available, which would probably be Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi, but I do not think the boss will be that gung ho, especially after being caught out so badly against Watford and then Chelsea.

I think Arsenal have to be wary of our opponents tomorrow and be ready to match their effort. The last thing we need is to let them take the lead and have something to defend, so a little patience and balance in the midfield would be the thing for me.

At the same time I think we do need to have some craft and guile in there to break down the disciplined defence, so with that in mind I think Wenger should rest Coquelin and bring in Mohamed Elneny, with the Ox operating as our box-to=box player.

The Egyptian may not have the same battling and tackling qualities as the Frenchman but he does have a great engine and passing ability, while the Oz offers pace and power and a direct style that offers Arsenal something different.

How would you line up the Arsenal midfield tomorrow?

Bob.

  1. Wenger is too stubborn to change- it will predictably be Ox-Coq with Coq making room for a forward if we are chasing the game or El Neny coming on to shore things if we want to see it out. He should actually start El Neny and Coq. Drop Theo until fully fit or hungrier for his 100th goal- he seemed happy with his coffee machine. Anyway Perez and Welbeck are chomping at the bit for a start and I would give one of both a start.
    Cech
    Gabriel Mustafi Koscielny Monreal
    El Neny Coquelin
    Perez Ozil Sanchez
    Welbeck

  2. Definitely Wellbeck. Thought looked creative and threatening when he came on-

    Giroud
    Wellbeck – Ozil – Sanchez
    Ox – Coq

Sanchez will naturally come inside, that gives space for Bellerine – think we’ve been underusing his speed and attacking contribution

  3. How many days is Elneny back. If Elneny looks ok to go and Coquelin is over his knock, well then it’s those two for sure. Coquelin might get rested, he hasn’t looked right for a while.

  4. Some time ago President Trump was asked on interview,” if you ran for the Presidency do you think you would win?” Answer, “Yes”….”Why do you say that?”….” because all my life I`ve never considered losing, I go in to win ALWAYS”. With this in mind Arsenal need to get numbers on the board early, so `yes` I would play an attacking mid field plus Perez and Welbeck with Sanchez. For my money the OX would be there probably alongside Coquelin.

  5. Coquelin is in terrible form now, probably he wasn’t fully fit b4 being rushed in.
he falls down so easily now (vs Deeney n Hazard) n has lost his pace.
..but we dnt have much of an option so Coquelin still has to start but preferably with another DM to cover his recent short-comings.

    Coquelin-Elneny
