Ever since his move from Malaga to the Emirates, Santi Cazorla has been one of the most important players for Arsenal. The Spaniard’s artistry on the ball, leadership on the pitch and versatility have all been sorely missed and the correlation with Arsenal’s drop in form and Santi’s injury is evident for all to see, not just this season but the previous campaign as well.
Unfortunately, the Spanish magician has had yet another setback in his rehabilitation and has confirmed that he will not be available for at least another five months, meaning that he will be absent till November and the time frame may increase in case of further complications. The player has had to undergo as many as eight surgeries after damaging his ankle during Arsenal’s 6-0 rout of Ludogorets in the Champions League group stage.
As quoted by Sky Sports, the Spaniard said: “You feel like throwing in the towel but my desire to play football is above everything. I haven’t been given a timeframe. It’s very difficult to put a date, but I don’t think it will be before five months.I’ve undergone eight surgeries, the last one (on Monday). I hope that things go better.”
I have to say, I fully understand Arsenal’s decision to hand Santi a new contract earlier in the year. The player is of world-class caliber and is a valuable asset to the team. But at 32 years of age and long-term injuries being a regular occurence, surely Arsenal have to look at life beyond the diminutive midfielder. While I am certainly not suggesting that the club let him go, I would not bank on the player’s fitness.
So in my opinion, Arsenal have to find another midfielder in the mold of Santi. Whilst Xhaka and Ramsey have been good towards the latter stages of the season, Santi’s technical brilliance and creativity on the ball has been sorely missed and Arsenal could benefit significantly by bringing in a midfielder who has the ability to bring that kind of artistry back to the Gunners’ midfield. Marco Verratti anyone?
Who do you think is a similar replacement?
AT
Did Wenger ask you for our suggestions? Lolz anywhere I will say Isco but he is definitely staying in Madrid
Thinking about which players to replace isnt out priority right now.
Can we instead think/talk about a new system or culture of playing that will replace the current one which clearly hasn’t worked out for years.
We keep talking about adding players here and there but amazingly after every big loss we know the problem is how we played, but we all forget this come transfer window.
The problem with Arsenal is how we play, or adapt our play in matches, we’ve had good players up to the point where our squad looks better than the opposition, but we then loose dismally.
We need a plan for attack with and without the ball, and a plan for defence with and without the ball. Most importantly we need a plan B.
I think Pablo Fornals has the same qualities as of santi. Also his close control, ability to play with both feet and versatility will be key for arsenal.
Oh Santi Cazorla! Oh Santi Cazorla! Oh Santi Cazorla!
..I’m gonna fight ’em all!
C Tolisso.
Leon Goretzka
Pablo fornals
All young and good . All international of tops nations , France Germany and Spain
We have Cazorla, Wilshere, Ramsey, Xhaka, Oxlade, Coquelin and Eleney in Central Midfield
We need to lose one or two before we sign a new one
Wilshere this year, and may be Eleney if we find a new guy coming in. Cazorla unfortunately will be out of contract next year and will be let go
Wenger quoting crap about money again will the man. Ever learn
Quoting Holding as an example, and how. Any of those have we had ? #wenger out
his quotes would be clever if he won the title with these players but he hasn’t. We’ve been worse than ever so what is he bragging about?
Verratti, if we have ambitions.
continue your our midfield suggestion and AW will do another thing.
then we start bombing here and there..
its a pity.
he won’t get anyone to replace Cazorla. He will wait for him to get fit, even though it’s likely Cazorla will suffer yet another setback and be out even longer. Wenger is not a proactive manager. I wouldn’t hold my breath on getting a CM.
Me…..
Idrissa Gana Guaye of Everton to play in the Sitting Deep role, and play Xhaka in Cazola’s position, the 3.4.2.1 system suits Xhaka and Gana most,Gana won more Tackles than kante.
Let’s compare both of them for 2 seasona, Idrissa at Aston Villa 2015/2016 and Kante at Leicester 2015/2016 season . Then compare too with Gana with Everton 2016/2017 and Kante with Chelsea 2016/2017

Isco would have been his perfect replacement, but I don’t see him leaving Madrid.
There is only one Santi Cazorla
